Texas Wagyu Association Sale - April 23, 2016

Not only was this outstanding young bull named Reserve Grand Champion Red/Black Bull at the 2016 Houston Livestock Show, he also had the  largest rib eye scan of all the entrants while placing in the top third for marbling.  Praised by the judge, Brant Poe, for his excellent strength and extra muscle on top, this bull has superb conformation with great depth and capacity.

In addition to his physical advantages, #140 has very desirable genetics.  His maternal grandsire, Itoshigenami, is currently ranked higher for marbling and full blood terminal index than any other foundation bull in the Australian EBVs.  In our opinion, this is the most definitive source for Wagyu data.  His paternal grandsire, Rueshaw, was the only Japanese National Champion to leave Japan.  Rueshaw's influence adds outcross genetics and the thickness, better milk, and early growth for which the Kumamoto red strain is famous.  His pedigree is 50% Kumanami/Tajima (high marbling), 31% Kumamoto red, 19% Itozakura/other.  He will have a low inbreeding coefficient with most Wagyu females, which will produce more hybrid vigor in the calves.

#140 has shown exceptional growth, gaining 2.91 lbs./day between 300 and 500 days.  At 17 months, he currently weighs over 1500 lbs.  He is halter broken and extremely docile.   With his balance of carcass traits and growth, he will be an outstanding choice for full blood production or terminal crosses.

Tested SCD AA and homozygous black.  He is free of known genetic disorders.

See details of the sale below.  Bull will be available for viewing beginning at noon on Friday, 4.22.16, at the Tenroc Ranch sale facility in Salado, TX.  Online and telephone bids will also be accepted during the sale.
